Question: Who should apply for STEP? Are all BMW Service Technicians required to complete this training Program? What about BMW MetroSTEP?
Answer: STEP is an advanced Training program that serves only the "best of the best" among future BMW center employees. Although it is not required, completion of BMW's STEP is clearly the best way to begin a career as a BMW Service Technician. If you're a bright ambitious student who is committed to this profession then STEP is for you. Start investing in your future today by contacting your school's career counselor or graduate employment counselor. Question: How much will it cost me to attend the program? Can I learn and work? Where is BMW MetroSTEP?
Answer: If you are accepted into STEP, the program itself will not cost you a penny. BMW will pay your entire tuition and also pick up the cost for all of your books and training materials. You will only need to pay for food, lodging and living expenses. To make this easy, STEP schools have made arrangements to help you find affordable housing and part-time employment while in the program.
BMW MetroSTEP is currently scheduled for the New Jersey and Southern California areas. It utilizes an enhanced work/study educational model, where the student also interns during the training program with the hiring BMW dealer. The BMW center provides an experienced mentor during the intership. Look into this 20 week BMW training opprtunity! See the STEP Press Releases on the home page about the scheduled BMW MetroSTEP sessions in CA and NJ in 2007.

Question: Will I have any obligations to BMW after I graduate from STEP?
Answer: BMW has only one requirement for STEP graduates: after graduation they must work at a participating BMW center for a minimum of 12 months. To make this as easy as possible, BMW STEP administrators arrange interviews for students during the final weeks in the program. Individual BMW centers may request that new hires sign a longer contract - but this is between you and the BMW center that hires you.

Question: When can I sign up for STEP? How often per year is STEP offered? Where and when is BMW MetroSTEP scheduled?
Answer: STEP runs all year long - with multiple start dates at locations across the country. Regardless of when you graduate from technical school, you can begin STEP soon afterwards. The program is offered in Phoenix, Orlando, Houston, Rancho Cucamonga (CA), Fremont (CA), Cleveland, and Upper Saddle River, NJ. To get more information, contact the graduate employment advisor at your school.

Question: How much do I need to know about BMWs in order to qualify for STEP?
Answer: BMW does not require applicants to have any specialized knowledge of its cars or the company. As long as you meet all the other prerequisites - including a high GPA, an acceptable driving record, good attendance, and the willingness to relocate - you only need to have completed a post-secondary automotive course at an accredited automotive technology school to qualify for STEP. However some professional experience is preferred.

Question: How long does the application process last? How far ahead of time should I begin to apply to STEP?
Answer: You can apply to STEP during the last months of your automotive training at a post-secondary school. It's best to make your intentions known early in your automotive training by speaking with a career counselor. Once you're certain that you want to attend STEP and can meet the program's acceptance criteria, you will need to complete forms, take an entrance exam and appear for interviews. To be sure there's enough time, you should start at least six months prior to the date you want to begin STEP. MetroSTEP is much shorter, so act now.
Important note: Do not overlook our BMW MetroSTEP sessions. See the press releases on the home page for more information.
