CURRICULUM

Course Overview

The BMW Military STEP program is open to those who are transitioning out of the military within 180 days of a class start date. Candidates of the program should have an MOS (military occupational specialty) or prior civilian career in automotive, wheel vehicle mechanics, technology or avionics and have the desire to become a BMW technician.

  • Live hands-on BMW repair center experience.
  • Repair order-based fundamentals and understanding.
  • Locating and analyzing BMW repair instructions and wiring diagrams.
  • Overview of BMW technology and features.
  • BMW warranty philosophy and policy.
  • Understanding and practicing key components of the warranty process required by BMW NA.
  • BMW warranty philosophy and policy.
  • Demonstrate how to work safely in a workshop environment including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Material.
  • Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • BMW Special Tool understanding and usage.
  • BMW Invisible Service MPI process.
  • All BMW required maintenance services.
  • Assess condition and perform basic to moderate tasks related to vehicle maintenance and repairs.
  • Search for and observe and implement BMW Service Bulletins/Repair Actions.
  • Repair order-based fundamentals and understanding.
  • Digital Volt Ohm Meter and IMIB usage.
  • Proper voltage supply and voltage drop measurements.
  • Locate electrical schematics and perform basic DVOM measurements.
  • Perform dynamic electrical measurements.
  • Repair order-based fundamentals and understanding. BMW HVAC system fundamentals, inspection, and repair.
  • Complete braking system diagnosis and repair.
  • Repair order-based fundamentals and understanding
  • Analyze and repair BMW Chassis Dynamics.
  • Brake by Wire fundamentals, inspection, and repair.
  • BMW Multi Link suspension identification and repair.
  • 2 and 4 wheel air suspension systems.
  • TPMS systems diagnosis and repair.
  • Explore internal movements of BMW engines.
  • Observe BMW engine internal components.
  • Repair order-based fundamentals and understanding. Engine sub-systems fundamentals, inspection, and repair.
  • Engine timing inspection and repair.
  • Perform technical checks on BMW engines.

Our class dates and openings can vary, please speak directly with your UTI Military Recruiter for upcoming start dates. Our MSTEP courses operate out of Fort Liberty Training Center (Fayetteville, NC) and Camp Pendleton Training Center (Camp Pendleton, CA).
